SCORE (Service Corps Of Retired Executives) offers these mentoring tips for small business owners to get the most out of their mentors:
  1. What's your problem - figure out what problems you are trying to solve. Prioritize and order them based on highest impact to your business success. The top 3-5 are the ones to focus on.

  2. Make the time - Business owners are busy people, but you need to make time to meet with mentors in order to solve your problems.

  3. Find someone that has solved your problem - The best mentor is someone that has experience with the problem you are facing or a similar situation.

  4. Use multiple mentors - Don't limit yourself to just one mentor. Build a team of advisors to help you with your challenges.
